Southbank Partners Board of Director, Roger Peterman, started the program and introduced the keynote speakers: Mayor of Newport, Jerry Peluso, Chief Engineer of Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 6, Rob Hans, and State House Representative, Dennis Keene.
Mayor of Newport, Jerry Peluso, said “You have to have teamwork to win and that’s exactly what this project has. When we come together there is little that we can’t accomplish”. Jack Moreland, President of Southbank Partners, added that the project was the result of tremendous cooperation between the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and the City of Newport. Ron Hans told the large group of attendees that the Transportation Cabinet wasn’t just highways that they also want to enhance the community for pedestrians, cyclists, and aviators. Dennis Keene stated that the Riverfront Commons Project lead by Southbank, symbolizes what local leaders are trying to do in the urban core. He went on to say that the expansion of this project is an important tool for economic development in the river cities.
