RED BIKE SHARE PROGRAM

Southbank Partners hosted a meeting of the 6 River City Leaders, business owners, residents and Jason Barron, Executive Director, of Red Bike. Jason shared the success of the Red Bike Share Program in Cincinnati that already has 30 Stations and the system works. It’s a convenient, low cost, healthy and green transportation system. It is designed for short, point-to-point trips, and will add to the urban vitality of a city while increasing mobility for residents, workers, students and visitors. Red Bike is a bike share program that eliminates the stresses that might cause some to choose not to ride their bike around town.

The cities of Covington, Newport and Bellevue are currently looking at the possibility of putting in the Red Bike Stations. There are however some items that will have to be determined funding, number of stations and locations. To install a station would cost roughly $50,000. Funding could come from the cities, corporate partners or state/federal grants.

The cities will be working with Red Bike to secure partnerships and funding. Southbank will also be available to assist.
