SOUTHBANK PARTNERS READY TO ASSIST COMMUNITIES CONNECT TO KENTUCKYWIRED
NEWPORT, Ky. – Southbank Partners wants to help Northern Kentucky get wired.
Southbank Partners recently hosted a presentation by operators of KentuckyWired, a Public Private Partnership between the State of Kentucky and private industry that is working on expanding robust, reliable and affordable broadband internet service to communities across Kentucky through an open-access fiber optic network.
Elected and appointed officials from cities, counties and school districts in the Southbank Partners communities joined technology business owners such as Newport-based Nexigen for an April 8 presentation on KentuckyWired from representatives of Macquarie Capital of Australia, one of the companies working with the state on the effort.
“This is an exciting project, and we wanted to provide the Southbank Partners communities with an opportunity to learn about the potential opportunities of KentuckyWired,” said Southbank Partners President Jack Moreland. “Economic development is one of the core missions of Southbank Partners, and businesses need fast, reliable access to broadband internet services to grow and compete in the 21st Century economy. KentuckyWired appears to have the potential to make our Southbank Partners communities and Northern Kentucky more attractive for business investment.”
Moreland said Southbank Partners is also prepared to continue to help provide more information about KentuckyWired to the Southbank Partners cities and counties as well as serve as a facilitator if cooperative agreements are explored or pursued.
Southbank has track record of bringing local entities together by developing successful interlocal agreements that have been used to secure federal and state funding to design and complete infrastructure and community improvement projects.
“Southbank Partners was formed so our river communities could work together in a more cohesive way,” Moreland said. “We’ve done that, we continue to do it on a regular basis and KentuckyWired could be another opportunity for us to work together for the betterment of our region.”
